Being prepared for any disaster is the goal of all preppers. The problem that exists for many of us is that the cost of being prepared can put a stop to the best laid plans. However, why not save some money by using a long standing tradition….Coupons!
That’s right I said coupons. I know you are thinking what in the world am I talking about. Think about it though. A coupon strategy like you see on shows such as Extreme Couponing which has become a hit for TLC could do wonders for your preparation plans. Think about the money you could save if you learned to coupon even half as well as the people we see on that show. The possibilities are endless.
The fact is many people consider coupons a poor mans money. Well I say let them think that than because I will be glad to spend the money I save on something else I want.
I think of the people on that show as closet preppers. That is right I just said they were closet preppers. Lets face it that is what they are. They are providing for their families by being prepared for the long term. They have years of toilet paper, tooth paste, canned goods and more. Could you imagine the possibilities if they started delving further into being a prepper.
The truth is…..well we could all learn something from them. Coupons combined with sales and double coupon days at grocery stores such as Giant Eagle, Meijers and others can be a preppers bonanza. Imagine taking your food stores from a 2 year supply to a 10 year supply for almost nothing. It is possible, but it takes a bit of time to learn and the right information.
A book I recently read on the subject of coupons was a huge help in learning how to organize and plan my use of coupons. The book was called How to Shop For Free and is available at Amazon. The author of the book is a lady by the name of Kathy Spencer. She has been featured on numerous shows including Good Morning America, Inside Edition and others. Unlike other books I have seen on the subject she actually gives you the information and ideas you need to be successful and above all else it is well written.
The best thing about coupons is that by using them along with sales and doubling you can actually get many items free or for pennies on the dollar. The key is watching ads and knowing what coupons you have and of course when it is the best time to use them. One more thing you need to realize is that bigger is not always better. What I mean by this is that sometimes it is better to buy the smaller less expensive package of the item you want. The reason is that you can actually maximize your savings by getting the item in multiples at no cost if you do it right.
I could go on, but honestly the author of the book does a much better job than I could at explaining how to coupon for free. So do yourself a favor and get a book that every prepper should have and learn how to build your supplies up for little or nothing.
